British Comedian, Writer and TV Host Frank Skinner was born in West Bromwich, Birmingham in 1957. Desert Island Discs presenter Kirsty Young also introduced him as a seeming mass of contradictions: Skinner was expelled from school, yet went on to get a master’s degree in English. He is a Catholic although unmarried and childless and often amuses his audiences with tales of his many sexual encounters.

Frank Skinner - Profile

At aged 30 Skinner was “an unemployed drunk going nowhere” when comedy, he says, “Saved my life”.

As with many comedians, his first experience of making people laugh was at school – his teacher left the classroom one day for 5 minutes, leaving him to entertain the class with funny stories. It wasn’t until he was 30, however, that he realised comedy was his destiny.
