Just like many others in the Tennis field Sergio Tacchini became a fashion icon after being a world class tennis player. Tacchini played both Davis Cup Tennis and World tour tennis and was also the Italian Champion both singles and doubles at numerous separate occasions in the 1960s.
Tacchini was motivated to create a colourful tennis brand in 1966 in response to the bland white tennis wear of the day. However, his onus on colour and style meant he also expanded into other areas such as ski, fitness, golf and sailing as well as leisure wear.
The brand became very popular in the 1980s and the Tacchini brand was especially popular for its 'Dallas' leisure wear - seen across TV and in wealthy America. This popularity was pushed by the company's association with many famous sports personalities including tennis Wild man John McEnroe, American star Pat Cash as well as champions Pete Sampras, Martina Navratilova and in later times Martina Hingis and current Wimbledon and Australian Champion Novak Djokovic. The company also sponsored the late, great Aryton Senna and also golfer Ian Woosnam
Things were so good for the Tacchini brand that they topped Tennis wear sponsorship alongside Fila in the 1980s.This was hurt by both Nike and Adidas' movement into the sport and their large cash deals with sports stars. Tacchini was purchased by a Chinese firm in 2008 and now has over 100 Tacchini stores worldwide.
The onus on the clothing is colourful but with the same simple lines of tennis polo shirts. This has made Tacchini a popular and also a very stylish brand that takes its style from the 1980s heyday of the brand. Tacchini clothing is a mixture of stylish track tops, round neck t-shirts and attractive polo shirts along with sweatshirts and tracksuit bottoms, all of which can be considered a part of the vintage clothing style.
The fashionable nature of this decade means that the clothing of Sergio Tacchini is a very hot clothing brand in 2011. This, along with the prominence of the likes of Djokovic on the tennis scene and the company's expansion and second coming after receiving a new lease of life financially has seen the brand go from strength to strength.
The clothing of Sergio Tacchini still rings true to its roots and is as stylish and colourful today as it was when it was first released and still adheres to the quality and design it was founded on, producing attractive and long lasting sporting and leisure apparel.
